Name: Captain Jack Harkness
Canon: Doctor Who/Torchwood
Canon Point: Between Doctor Who 1x13 and Torchwood 1x01. After Jack has been killed and brought back to life as a fixed point in time only to be abandoned on a satellite by the Doctor, the only living thing in a place otherwise filled with the dust of corpses. Directly after an attempt to use his Vortex Manipulator to travel back to 21st century Cardiff, a place where he knows the Doctor is likely to go. Typically, the Vortex Manipulator takes him to his intended destination, a hundred years before he intended to arrive and burns out from the 200,000 year journey. If possible, I would like to take him from just as he arrives, with the Vortex Manipulator already damaged.

Setting Concepts:
Time Lords: A species of beings who had gained a mastery of time travel, and who possessed a non-linear perception of time. They made themselves responsible for looking after time, monitoring it and looking for possible breaks. They were generally neutral and had strict non-interference laws, though some would not keep to them. They were (almost) all killed in the Last Great Time War against their enemies, the Daleks.

Daleks: A constructed race that exist within robotic shells; They have nothing but hate for any other species in the galaxy, and wish for nothing more than to 'Exterminate' all of them. They were (almost) all destroyed during the Last Great Time War.

The Last Great Time War: A war fought between the Time Lords and the Daleks, eventually ended when the Doctor made a move that resulted in a (thought to be) complete genocide of both species, with himself the only survivor.

Time Agency: Created after the 42nd Century to fill the void left by the loss of the Time Lords and keep time in order. They have been known, at least once, to remove memories from their own agents when needed. They have, at some point, disbanded.

TARDIS: Standing for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space, the TARDIS is a living, sentient ship capable of moving through space and time. One such ship was stolen by the Doctor and is thought to be the last remaining one in existence; While generally in possession of a chameleon circuit that allows them to gain an outwards appearance best suited to not draw attention wherever it lands, this particular model is stuck in the guise of a polic public call box. It's bigger on the inside than the outside.

Vortex Manipulator: Used by Time Agents, this is a multifunctional device that allows for teleportation across space and time. It also allows for communication between individuals, can interface with other electronic devices, and project holograms as well as scan life-forms and areas, and supply information from a built-in database. It also plays music.

The Doctor: A rogue, and now the last remaining, Time Lord. He journeys through time and space with the TARDIS, and typically travels with one or more individuals whom he has met as his companions. Becomes involved with almost anything and is something of a trouble magnet.

Fixed Point in Time: Jack's current status, after Rose Tyler, one of the Doctor's companions, brought him back to life and, without meaning to, made sure that it stuck. It leaves him incapable of dying permanently, and may make those with a time sense uncomfortable around him.

Nanogenes: Sub-atomic robots capable of healing wounds and even restoring lost appendages. In times of war they could also create soldiers by way of reprogramming those that they came in contact with.

Personality:
Born in the fifty-first century, he grew up on the Boeshane Peninsula. He was raised by his mother and father, and has a little brother, Gray. His childhood was fairly normal though his home lived under threat of invasion. At least until the day his home area was attacked, resulting in the death of his father and the disappearance of his brother. The loss of the two family members left his mother distraught, especially her son.

Time passed and a war started, presumably against the things that had attacked. Whether this was in effect already is unknown, but in any case at one point Jack joins it. He persuades his best friend to join up with him, telling them that it would be an adventure. They end up captured crossing the border over enemy lines. As the weaker of the two his friend is tortured in front of him, forcing him to watch as he was killed before releasing him. How long he fought in the war is unknown.

After it, however, he joined the Time Agency. It was here that his more carefree seeming nature came to the forefront, and he had a number of trysts with numerous people. His employment in the Time Agency continued for an undetermined amount of time until he left upon discovering that they'd taken two years of his memory.

Keeping possession of his Vortex Manipulator, he turned rogue. Stealing a ship he started running cons on the agency and in general, trying to get back the time that he had lost. He would find a piece of space junk, hurtle it through the time vortex to get the attention of a Time Agent, and then land it in an opportune location. This was normally where history said an explosion was going to take place, or where at a certain time the object would be destroyed, without the buyer ever seeing it. While he got a good amount of money from these cons, his ultimate goal was always the return of his stolen memories. He was always careful not to get anyone hurt as a result of a con.

One particular con though, involving an space ambulance and the London Blitz changed everything, in which he took the name of Captain Jack Harkness. What he thought was an empty ambulance proved to be full of nanogenes which were released when the ship crashed, nearly resulting in a plague of converted humans that would have eventually spread over the entire Earth. It was during this period that he met the Doctor, who showed him that the plague was indeed his fault, and lead him to question himself. In the end he took responsibility for it, and his guilt led him to stop the bomb that had been part of his original con by taking it aboard his ship. Had the Doctor not intervened this would have resulted in his death, though instead it led him to a new stage of life.

Though his time travelling with the Doctor and Rose Tyler was short it left a large impact on him. They became a very tight knit team and by the end he had managed to fall for them. The Doctor in particular he had a deep faith and trust in, stating at one point that he "Never doubted him, never will." In the end though, on the Gamestation he once more said his goodbyes to them, and this time he did die. However he was restored to life by Rose, who at the time had the power of the Time Vortex. Awakening to his new immortality, he ran towards the sound of the TARDIS's engines arriving in time to see it dematerialize, leaving him stranded alone on the satellite full of the dead, in orbit above a ruined Earth.

For a while he waited in case the Doctor returned, but after a few days there was no sign of him. Taking things into his own hands he made use of his Vortex Manipulator, planning to make his way to Cardiff in the 21st century, where he knew the Doctor would have to return eventually to refuel the TARDIS.

At heart, Jack is an extrovert.  He is very much a people person, thriving on attention and contact.  He is extremely open sexually, and very much the flirt.  He has no problem telling stories about things that may or may not have happened to him exactly as he says, and is capable of laughing at himself.  Beyond this he is smart and knows how to utilize what he has, be it his own charms or supplies or a team.  He is a practicer of optimism and also extremely confident.

Jack has spent a lot of time in various organizations and some sort of chain of command, and it shows as he is more then willing to give orders, and to do what needs to be done.  He can think on his feet, and has a habit of assuming responsibility for people that he is with.  Mentally, he is a very strong individual.  When he believes something he strives to prove its truth, even if there is little evidence to it.  He can be more then a little reckless when he's sure of what he's doing, and tends to not listen to those around him in these cases.

Despite all of this, he tends to keep more personal stories and information close to the hip. This includes his real name, as well as most of his early history.

Jack has also proven himself more than capable of holding a grudge, as evidenced by the way he cut himself loose from the Time Agency after they wiped two years worth of his memory, and took to conning their agents.

He can attract people easily, and is also easily attracted.  When he falls for someone the affection lasts, and he tends to remember even brief interludes fondly.

While he had been living somewhat selfishly since his parting with the Time Agency, his journeys with the Doctor and Rose Tyler have helped him better look at the consequences of his actions and he has been trying to become a better person.

He is willing to die for those who he loves, even just to buy them some time, and has proven it.

Abilities: Jack is a fixed point in time, or immortal, meaning that he is unable to remain dead. He heals at a normal rate otherwise, but if killed he will return to life and with his body healed fully. The amount of time he remains dead depends on the nature of his death, but can range from a few minutes (gunshot to the head) to a few days (an energy draining phenomenon). At this time there is no known way to permanently kill him. His aging appears to take place at an extremely slow rate. It also leaves him apparently immune to radiation. The resurrections are, however incredibly painful. (As of the point I am apping him from, he does not know any of this just yet.)

Being from the 51st century, he has pheromones that make him smell nice and generally leads others to see him as more attractive, though not to levels that would cause anyone to do anything they wouldn't want to do.

He is also in excellent physical condition, a skilled fighter, an expert in numerous types of weaponry and has some engineering and technical knowledge having assisted with repairs and maintenance of an extremely advanced time/space ship.

Inventory:
Vortex Manipulator - defunct and pretty much a fancy bracelet at this point. There is reason to believe a sufficiently knowledgeable individual could fix it.
Leather pants and vest, white shirt, boots.

Third Person:
Captain Jack Harkness awoke nauseous, covered in something distinctly warm and wet, naked on the floor, and not nearly disoriented enough to stop him regretting the fact that he didn't remember a thing about what had to have been one amazing night. He was, however, disoriented enough to take a few minutes as he lay still on the ground, raking his memory, that he was a couple hundred years past the last time that he'd actually partied like that. The realization made him actually open his eyes though, at the same time as he tried to sit up. The effect the ultimately unwise movements had on his head elicited a brief moan as he closed his eyes once more. While he waited for his senses to get a hold of themselves, he tried again to cast his thoughts to what might have happened. He really doubted that the team had finally given in and decided it was about time to get rid of all of the unresolved sexual tension down under the Plass at one time. That would have made the lack of memory a real shame. Anyway; twenty-first century, and no way he'd have gotten drunk enough to forget it.

That left a few other options, and he opened his eyes again after a few minutes, actually managing to get a look around as he worked to get to his feet. The wet part didn't help with that, but he managed, staying still and just staring. The room was huge, cavernous you might even call it, and as far as he could see the only decor seemed to be made up of ton of giant metal capsules. There was a lack of vibrations that assured him no, he hadn't somehow decided to stow aboard some kind of colony ship, which was good because it would have meant he'd lost a century or two of memory and the two years he still hadn't figured out were really more than enough. At the very least, he knew that he hadn't been dead. That would have come with the far too familiar feeling of being dragged over broken glass he'd told Gwen about. This rang more of his having been drugged somehow.

When he thought that he might actually be able to take a step, Jack tried it. Fought back the last of the now faded dizziness and peered at one of the computer monitors he managed to notice next to a capsule. It made him think of a hospital, but he couldn't figure out why he, of all people, would be in one. Not that it made any sense even without him. Jack gave up on the screen eventually, and restrained himself from trying to get one of the other capsules open. There was no telling what their use was, and he didn't really want to find out too late that they just plain shouldn't be. Dying never stopped being the opposite of fun. The next logical thing to do was to search for the exit and, since he couldn't think of anything illogical to do, and there just happened to be one on hand, he walked towards it, squinting into the darkness as he went, and startled only briefly as something broke the silence.

"Good day. Welcome to Vault 1. Please proceed to decontamination where further instructions will be given."

The captain took in the words as well as the tone. A bit on the tinny side, probably female, and hey, he could understand them. That was a plus and he stood as confident as he could in the middle of the hallway after he'd confirmed that no, unfortunately his compact laser deluxe wasn't on his person. "Don't suppose you'd be up for a little story time before I go, huh?" He asked the voice as he glanced upwards, but after a few moments of silence he was treated to a simple repetition of the message. "Yeah, didn't think so," he muttered, tone only half good natured as he glanced over at an exit sign and started walking that way.

His trek and fabulous ability to listen was eventually rewarded with slightly improved lighting, and another chamber that was another wonderful shade of grey. It wasn't an uncommon enough design scheme, and he closed his eyes to the warning of a decontamination, bracing himself before the cold air hit him. It wasn't like decontamination procedures were especially rare, and he'd gone through his fair share of them. The ones involving company and hoses were more fun in his opinion than the one going on just then, even if the jets of cool air surprised half a smile out of him.

"Decontamination completed. Memory scanned and replicas processed. Please proceed to the adjacent chamber and pick up your replicas. A complimentary lift will be provided. Welcome to Boston, located in the state formerly known as Massachusetts." Something was kind enough to inform him, and that was a much more interesting message. On one part because the mention of memory scanning gave some concern, call it a touchy subject. Replicas perked up his interest though, and he started walking again, but not before he addressed the final point.

"Never knew Massachusetts had such big fans of Prince," Jack joked to his pre-recorded companion of the moment, not bothering to wait for a reply this time before he moved along to his next stop on the rather un-illustrious tour. Eventually he reached what seemed to be an elevator door, and a box that, upon further inspection, contained his clothes. "Damn, thought for a minute I'd been kidnapped by a nudist colony. So much for that."

He put the wrist strap on first, since it was the only thing he felt anything near weird about not wearing, but followed it by actually getting dressed. That was where the replicas came in he assumed, and a quick inspection of his gun's identical twin proved it to be unloaded. Who copied an extra gun over for someone he didn't know, but he put it in an inside pocket of his coat and after a final glance over his shoulder, and shoving the other thing he'd found in the box with the rest of the stuff into another pocket, he headed into the elevator.

"Going up," he guessed, as the door closed, and Jack shoved his hands into the pockets of his pants as the doors closed, smirking with a hint of amusement before adding to no one in particular, "Catch ya later and I swear, if floor two is Daleks...we're over."

The opening of the doors revealed pamphlets instead of killing machines, and for a fraction of a second he felt almost at home, in a faintly amused way. What was it with seemingly secret things and tourist paraphernalia anyway? It didn't matter in the long run, but the existance of another exit did, so he headed out.

Network:
[The video opens on a somewhat charming smile.]
Hey. Captain Jack Harkness here, and I've got to say it's a pretty nice turtle you've got. She's not exactly where I was trying to get, but seeing as this place seems short on the killer reality tv shows...pretty minor quibble.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the sights, meeting any interested locals or not-so-locals like myself.

And oh, Doctor, Rose? [His smile tightens, just barely. Appears just a bit forced.] If you're out there, looks like I'm alive after all. Which I'm kind of hoping you two didn't know, because seriously? There are much nicer ways to let a guy down.
